Scale Day 2018 at LMAC

LMAC Scale Day 2018

On Sunday Aug 19, Laois model aero club hosted a scale day at their flying site in portlaoise

The mornings overcast weather did not deter the pilots travelling with the first to arrive from Kerry at 9am. As the day progressed the influx of pilots steadily increased in tandem with the improving weather.  By lunchtime we had nearly 40 pilots on site. These enthusiasts travelled from all over Ireland to meet old friends and make new ones… as well as taste some of the delicious burgers from Co.Roscommon.

The static displays were indicative of the amount of enthusiasm still in the hobby and the models themselves were presented in immaculate condition. It’s was refreshing to see scale helicopters at the event and when they flew it proved to be a crowd pleaser for all the friends and families in attendance.

I extend a huge thanks to all the pilots who presented their models and their flying skills so well.

This proved to be the most popular event of the year for LMAC and was very well supported by fellow scale flyers from around the country. We were delighted to see MACI officers in attendance and we thank MACI for their support.

A huge thanks to everyone who travelled, the pilots and their friends and families. My thanks must go to LMAC for providing us with one of the best flying sites in Ireland. Special mention goes to Seamus who had the site in pristine condition, as well as my trusted fellow organisers, Martin Sweeney  Gareth Brahan and Fergus O Reilly.

Lastly a quick thanks to Brian Foran for bringing the scale trophies on the day and having them in such beautiful condition, and to Liam Broderick from Model Heli Services for donating some prizes for our draw.

Looking forward to next years event already, and im confident that the “scale day ” may come to be the event of the year going forward, when it gets bigger and bigger

Enjoy some pictures from the day. Thanks to Geoff Grice AMFC for the aircraft pics, and LMAC secretary Michael Mc Evoy for the aerial shots.
