RIP John Beasley
It was with great sadness we learned of the death of a very long standing member and friend, John Beasley, R.I.P. who was a native of Cork and a member of the Bandon Model Flying Club.
Our sincere sympathies are with his wife Evelyn and children Jonathan and Sara in their great loss.
John joined MACI in the late 1960s (EI 511) and was appointed Chairman in 1971. In the years that followed John would be seen at most competitions throughout the country competing for his native Cork club. In the 1980s John and his company, Beamish and Crawford, hosted the MACI AGM on two occasions in their meeting rooms in Cork which was later followed by a fabulous meal and tankards of beer for the lads and wine for the ladies which was very much appreciated by all.
In 2005 and 2006 he found himself again back as chairman of MACI and was very successful in the manner and courtesy he portrayed at controlling council and AGM meetings. John was a very dedicated and hard working member which he portrayed up until recently when his health went into decline.
As a model aircraft flier he was one of the best FAI aerobatic pilots in Ireland and won many competitions. He represented Ireland abroad in competitions and on two occasions was invited to fly at the Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas. As model aircraft took on another image and jet planes came on the scene, John was drawn to this side of the sport and in recent years his interests went from I.C. aircraft to jet.
John will be missed for his humour and wit by all who knew him.
Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
President, Chairman and Officers of MACI.
