Scale Day 2019 – Report

Following on from the huge success of last years first scale day in Laois , this years event was hosted by midland model flying club (MMFC) in boora co Offaly on Sunday aug 18.

Despite the wet and windy early morning, the pilots duly turned out to support our event and began preparing their aircraft for static and flying displays. We had pilot “ goody bags” for all registered pilots and this gift was well received.

It was encouraging to see so many different models on site, varying in size all the way up to the huge 50% size Hempel edge brought out by our great friend  Sid.

With the scale secretary in touch with the weather forecasters, the good news was that we would enjoy a four or five hour window of nice weather from 1-5pm so the decision was made early on to have an early BBQ!
The BBQ was a welcome treat during the rain and went down really well with an ever increasing crowd.

Once the sun came out on schedule at 1 ish we got the models airborne. Highlight of the flying went to the Hempel in the very capable fingers of Sid who was master of machine to the awe of the crowd.

During the short break in proceedings our scale secretary thanked all for the support and we had a spot prize giveaway for all the pilots.

More food , more flying and more craic continued into the evening and capped off yet another superb day. Feedback from those in attendance was that it was one of the best events of the year and everyone is looking forward to “scale day 2020”*
